Bank balance of Life

by Confuddled @ 2008-04-13 - 17:20:01

Today has been one of those days where I've woken up feeling very blue & tearful. Those who "know" me will know that this happens to me every so often. I was intending to write a blog about how I felt as a means of trying to get myself out of the hole, but...I came across this and thought I'd share it instead (I don't know who or where it originated from).

"Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with £86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course?

Each of us has such a bank. It's name is TIME.

Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no over draft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.

If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against "tomorrow." You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success. The clock is running. Make the most of today.

To realise the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realise the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.
To realise the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realise the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realise the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who just missed a train.
To realise the value of ONE SECOND, ask someone who just avoided an accident.
To realise the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal at the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with. And remember time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why its called the present."

 very wise. live in the now and realsie that all is transient we only know life througfh looking back therein lies the paradox...sorry you are feeling blue, some pampering would be a good idea, whats on the menu should you want to do some? Bath candles, oils ,books music, food ( ;) Chocolate) I was smiling my way through oh broth ewhere art thouu last night, one of my favourite films, when I realised one day I will die, sounds morbid, but it happens when you are reading a lot of bhuddist stuff and learning to meditate. The more I do so, the more I realise that, warts and all my life is a very precious jewel.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I'm slowly getting myself out of the hole. Had a few chocolates during the week! The thing that seems to be helping is Louise Hay's "You can heal your life". Each day I try be conscious of my thought patterns and as soon as I spot a negative, I turn it into a positive.

hey, i hope you get to feeling better soon, thinking too much always leads me to feeling down, gotta switch off sometimes

Thank you - you're right, thinking too much doesn't always do good! That's partly my problem!!!

Thank you so much!!! When I first say your comment, it made me cry - but in a nice way. It still astounds me the support people give to others in blogland!

Wasn't my own handiwork. Found it on the internet but haven't been able to trace who originally wrote it.

Interesting how we all have our ways of dealing with things. I find it much easier not to think of the future or the past but focus on what I'm doing now. Nothing to get down about then and I enjoy things so much more. Hard to explain, but what I'm doing right now is much more enjoyable then thinking about something which may never be or something which has already been done.

The sun is shining and it really is a beautiful day - sending some of that to you.

Hunny, if you ever need to talk, you know where to find me.

(((hugs)))

I'm a lot better than when I posted this. This weekend I've even been inspired to start a new painting.
